Hebrew Education
Vision Statement
Revised 2005
"The Torah is a tree of life to those who take hold of it,
and those who support it are praiseworthy. Its ways are ways of
pleasantness and all its paths are peace." Proverbs 3:17-18
The Baruch HaShem (BHS) Hebrew Department recognizes the role of the Hebrew language
as a unique expression of our Jewish heritage, and as a vital link connecting
national Israel with the Diaspora. It is the goal, therefore, of the Hebrew
Department at Baruch HaShem to equip the Congregation to fully participate
in corporate worship of the G-d of Israel, to learn how to study the Tanach in
its original language and Hebraic thought, to converse in the modern language
in order to share the message of Yeshua HaMashiach with our Jewish brethren
in its original Hebraic context, and to pass on to the next generation the rich
heritage of the Hebrew language. We also recognize the need for outreach
to help educate the community of Believers in Biblical Hebrew in order to better
understand the teachings of our Jewish Messiah in their Hebraic context.
As a Messianic Congregation, our worship is expressed through Hebrew liturgy
in prayer and song. Most of the time it is through chanting the Hebrew liturgy together
with Kavannah (devotion) and worshipful singing that we enter into the depths of worship.
Therefore, it is important that congregants understand the origin and significance of the
liturgy being used in the BHS services, and be able to participate with Hebrew literacy
and comprehension. This objective will be met through the Alef Bet and Prayers &
Blessings of the Siddur classes.
It is also a major objective of the BHS Hebrew Department to help prepare the
children of BHS to fulfill the mitzvah of making aliyah to the Torah. A course of
study including Alef Bet, the Hebrew & Heritage series, and Cantillation Tutoring
has been established to help impart a love for Torah and the Hebrew language to
our children.
The Hebrew department will also assist in preparing adults who have never
made aliyah to the Torah in developing the skills necessary through a newly
developed Adult B’nei Mitzvah Program.
The knowledge of Biblical Hebrew will enhance the Bible study of Yeshua’s
talmidim and facilitate accuracy in translation and Hebraic thinking. This objective
will be met by providing a course of study in Biblical Hebrew.
