Kol Nidre & Yom Kippur

Vayikra (Leviticus) 16:29-31, "And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you: For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the L-RD. It shall be a Sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever. "

We end the 10 Days of Awe with the most solemn Holy Day of Atonement, where we approach the L-rd with humility, repentance, and gratitude for our forgiveness. Our Kol Nidre service will be Yom Kippur Eve, Wednesday, October 8, at 7 p.m., and will begin our communal day of fasting. (To sing in the Kol Nidre choir, contact Betty Keim or Jarred Soule, and plan to attend choir rehearsal Sunday, October 5.)

The Yom Kippur Service will be Thursday morning, October 9, at 10:30 a.m.  After service all are welcome to stay and continue to pray and intercede with the Jewish Community. We will meet again that night at 6:30 p.m. for our N'ilah closing service and congregational Break the Fast at 7 p.m. We will be enjoying a catered meal of soup, salad, and bread.

Note: It is tradition to wear white on Yom Kippur to symbolize purity and our sins being made white as snow ( Isaiah 1:18). Some people wear a kittel, the white robe in which the dead are buried.

Blessed is He who comes in the name of the L-rd
