Starting on July 30, 2011 and going forward, the mp4 videos on our media archive page will be created a little differently. This will allow us to make a higher quality mp4 video and at the same time make the size of the file smaller, so it can be downloaded to your computer faster. Most users will have no problem playing the file as you normally do. But for some viewers the mp4 may not play correctly.
There is a simple fix. We recommend using VLC Media Player. It is a media player that will play many more types of files (including our new mp4 files) than the standard Windows Media Player, for example. There is a version for both Windows and Mac.
For Windows, if you want to keep your computer as it is without changing anything, there is a VLC download option which lets you use VLC without having to install it. From the VLC website, download the ZIP Package. After the download is finished, extract the folder out of the ZIP file so that the folder is on your desktop. Then to use VLC, open the folder and double click the vlc.exe icon inside. VLC will launch. Then navigate to the file you want to play, and play it. To launch VLC without having to open the folder every time, send a shortcut of vlc.exe to your desktop.
For Mac, you must install VLC Media Player to use it.
