The Mourner’s Kaddish is not a prayer for the dead, but a prayer of comfort for the living. The Mourner’s Kaddish is an ancient prayer of praise that expresses a longing for G-d to establish His kingdom on earth. The words of the Kaddish provide comfort by emphasizing the greatness and sovereignty of G-d, even in the hardest parts of life.
Baruch HaShem Mourner’s Kaddish Policy:
If a BHS member needs to recite the Mourner’s Kaddish for an immediate family member (parent, child, sibling, or spouse), please contact the office after the burial to schedule it. All other requests including Yahrzeits will be done on the first Shabbat of every month. Please submit your request to the BHS office by noon on the Wednesday preceding the first Shabbat of the month.
Mourner’s Kaddish Prayer translation:
Exalted and sanctified be G-d’s great Name (Amen)
in the world which He has created according to His will,
And may He establish His kingdom in your lifetime
and during your days, and within the life of the entire House of Israel,
speedily and soon; and say, Amen. (Amen)
May His great Name be blessed forever and for all eternity.
Blessed and praised, glorified and exalted, extolled
and honored, elevated and lauded be the Name of the Holy One, blessed be He, beyond all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations
that are uttered in the world; and say, Amen. (Amen)
May there be great peace from heaven, and life, for us
and for all Israel; and say, Amen. (Amen)
May He who creates peace in His high places make peace within us
and for all Israel; and say ye: Amen. (Amen)
